Jazkarta is Green
All the members of Jazkarta feel strongly about the environment, and maintain strong awareness of our environmental impact as we work and live our lives. Here are some of the ways that we actively try to keep our environmental impact as low as possible while still offering the best services and products to our clients
- Jazkarta's management relies heavily on public transportation and owns no cars. When cars are needed the car sharing service Zipcar is used. Each zipcar replaces 20 personally owned vehicles ( http://tinyurl.com/yv8r8z)
- Jazkarta's President, Nate Aune lives in a modest 400sq/ft apartment as a lifestyle choice. This apartment has much lower electrical consumption, and also costs far less to heat and cool.
- Jazkarta is headquartered out of the betahouse, which reduces environmental impact vs having a free standing office.

- Several business share a single (rarely used) printer
- There are no power heavy CRT monitors at the betahouse, as everyone uses laptops and LCD monitors
- Most employees of Jazkarta use laptops as their primary computers, saving large amounts of electricity
- Jazkarta's employees do not generally travel to work. No commuting = no carbon emissions.
- Jazkarta is in the process of migrating all servers to Amazon's EC2/S3 service. This will assist environmentally and efficiency-wise.
- We
operate a nearly paperless office. All paper fits inside a single small
file cabinet. 99% of our document handling is digital. When we print
it's recycled paper.
- We prefer eBooks over dead-tree books and often use O'Reily's eBook service
- We purchase fair trade, organic foods for corporate events when possible
- We rely on video and voice conferencing to replace most face to face communication, which would often require traveling by vehicle.
- When in Boston, and there is no snow- we often travel via bicycle.
- Dave drinks more pounds of Fair Trade coffee a week than the average Starbucks brews.
